Sarcophagi

The Sarcophagi series takes its name from the ancient stone containers made to preserve and protect what was placed within them. Historically associated with burial, memory and permanence, the sarcophagus is both an object and an enclosed space — a structure defined as much by what it conceals as by what it reveals.

Reduced to the scale of the hand, the reference shifts from the monumental to the intimate. Each Sarcophagus becomes a private space for the objects we choose to keep close and out of sight.

Constructed from thin slabs of stone, the simple form places emphasis on the material itself: its geological formation, colour, veining and natural variations.

Sarcophagus — Persian Rose Travertine

A small marble container made from Persian Rose Travertine, a warm pink-toned stone characterised by the porous structure and irregular markings typical of travertine.

Thin slabs of stone are cut and assembled by hand, with a recessed groove in the lid allowing it to rest securely on the box. Each piece is unique, with variations in colour, veining, porosity and surface determined by the stone.
