Sarcophagi

The Sarcophagi series explores the relationship between containment, concealment and material. Historically, the sarcophagus is both container and monument — an architectural form created to protect what is placed within while marking its significance through material, scale and surface.

Reduced here to the dimensions of a small box, the form shifts from the monumental to the intimate. Each Sarcophagus becomes a private space for objects we choose to keep close, yet out of sight.

Constructed from thin slabs of stone, the boxes are deliberately restrained in form. Ornament is replaced by the material itself: veining, sedimentation, colour and geological variation become the visible surface of the object.

The series considers the box not simply as storage, but as a boundary between what is displayed and what is concealed — between the exterior we encounter and the interior that remains private.
