Marble Fruit Series

The Marble Fruit Series by Trine Guldager for Autumn Cph is a study in transformation — of stone into sustenance, of tradition into contemporary form. Each fruit is made in collaboration with a family of marble artisans in Pietrasanta, Italy, whose craft has been handed down through five generations. Here, Carrara marble offcuts are given new life, shaped and painted by hand with natural pigments, each surface carrying traces of both geological and human time.

Beyond their tactile beauty, the marble fruits carry symbolic resonance. Since antiquity, fruit has embodied fertility, transience, pleasure, and exchange. Recast in marble, these familiar forms become both permanent and surreal, standing outside of season and decay. They are objects that ask us to reflect on value — of material, of labour, and of the cultural meanings we assign to everyday forms.

No two fruits are alike; slight variations and imperfections are part of their making. Each piece holds within it a layered story of nature, craft, and imagination — an invitation to see the ordinary anew.
